The food we eat is based on the principles of compassion and non-violence. We eat only vegetarian food, avoiding products which have caused suffering to any living being. By protecting our fellow living entities, instead of killing them, one is following God`s laws.
In the Bhagavad-Gita 9.26 Lord Krishna says: “If one offers Me with love and devotion a leaf, a flower, fruit or water, I will accept it”. The important element, in preparation, in serving and in offering, is to act with love for Kṛṣṇa.

So we offer Krsna vegetables, fruits, grains, milk and water and humbly pray that He will accept them. This sanctified food is called prasadam or ‘mercy’ and because Krsna has accepted it, it is karma-free.
“..bowing down and praying for Him to accept such a humble offering enables one to advance steadily in life, to purify the body, and to create fine brain tissues which will lead to clear thinking. Above all, the offering should be made with an attitude of love.” BG 9.26
